NBC’s GIVE television program and Ford Motor Company Fund have teamed up and help two deserving nonprofits that are actively improving the lives of American military veterans.
These two small nonprofits are having a big impact facilitating men and women back into civilian life after their military service. Blair Underwood, host of GIVE, consulted with Ford Fund President Jim Vella on how to divide the investment between the two worthy organizations. It’s a decision Vella is required to make all the time. “Most important is community need — you always want to meet the greatest need,” Vella told Underwood. “You make some of the decision with your head and some with your heart.”
The two nonprofits receiving the Ford Fund investments each provide unique support to military veterans. The support these organizations provide creates a positive impact on the lives of veterans and their families.
- Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) empowers veterans who suffer from PTSD and brain injuries, as well as their families, through arts classes and performances. ASAP offers courses in stand-up comedy, improvisation, writing and storytelling.
- Bunker Labs is a national not-for-profit organization built by military veteran entrepreneurs to empower other military veterans to become leaders in innovation. Bunker Labs provides educational programming, subject matter experts, networking events, and active local networks to help military veterans start and grow businesses.
Overall, Ford donated $25,000 during the NBC episode, to improve the lives of veterans and their families, with $15,000 going to Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) and $10,000 to Bunker Labs DC.
“You’ve all had the opportunity to serve our country and this is a way that our employees can serve you for a change,” Vella told veterans at Bunker Labs as the surprise was revealed. The Ford Fund grant will be used to create a mobile app that will connect the veteran community around the country. “We’re all going to use it,” said Todd Connor, CEO, Bunker Labs. “This will bring our whole community together.”
Ford Motor Company has been supporting military veterans for almost a century now and we thank them for their continuing support of programs and organizations that are positively affecting the lives of our nation’s veterans.
